Welcome
My name is Tony Miller, Jr. and this is my graduate portfolio for the Masters Program Leadership and Policy Studies with a concentration in Student Personnel. I enrolled into the program in the Fall of 2013. I hail from Augusta, Georgia. I received my B.S. in Political Science from Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) located in Americus, Georgia in the Spring of 2013. During my time at the University of Memphis I have served as a Graduate Assistant for Residence Life and Dining Services supervising South Hall.
Higher Education has not always been on my career path. I wanted to be a great defense attorney one day, but my sophomore year of college I became a resident assistant and a student organization president and it changed my entire perspective. I was able to build a great relationship with the Vice President for Student Affairs, Dr. Samuel Miller. He helped me navigate the different areas of Student Affairs and answered the questions I had on how to get started. I wanted to make a difference in peoples life and I learned Student Affairs was going to give me a chance to touch many lives and help them them navigate through college.
I know how to help people naturally, but during these last two years, I have been able to learn the theories and academic work behind why I have been able to help others and build relationships in the college atmosphere. I have acquired skills, techniques, but most importantly knowledge of the different Student Development theories. One thing that preparing this portfolio has done for me is allow me to review the things I have learned, but also assess my growth as a student and a professional. This program has solidified my decision to make a career in Higher Education. Throughout my website you will see me display what I have learned during my academic journey at the University of Memphis.
