Self Management Skills
1. Recognize and apply one's preferred style of learning
The purpose of the Informal Self-Analysis paper was to define our definition of development and also talk about our development from the beginning of our college years to our current state. This paper allowed me to journey back to my first years of college when I was trying to find my own identity in college, but by the end of the paper it made me highlight the way in which I learned the best which explained the reasons why I have always preferred face to face classes instead of online classes even after I entered graduate school.
2. Articulate one's beliefs
With this assignment I was able to think about the foundation in which I was raised on and why I think the way I think. I was able to share my background and belief in Christ as well as why I believe relationships are so important to me. In this assignment I was able to write how I felt without being worried about how others would view me because the paper was all about who I was and me answering the questions why I am the way I am.
3. Apply what one has learned to subsequent experiences
I have always viewed myself as a leader and taking the Educational Leadership class was really enjoyable for me because it was all about different leadership styles. I was able to read and see what my "real" style was and read why people use a certain style and when they may need to use another. I was able to reshape my leadership style slightly after taking this course because I was able to understand what my current leadership style and approach is. I was then able to evaluate my leadership decisions the entire semester since I was learning more and more about them as the semester went on.
4. Demonstrate individual capacity to create results
Residence Life always has a period of time where we allow students change rooms, whether it is into a room with their friends or to a building they prefer. As always there is always a certain way to do things. In the past and across campus, Assistant Area Coordinators conducted the room change paperwork process in their office. When I got to Memphis, I felt it would be more effective if I did it in the lobby where space was not at a premium. Implementing this idea created not only an easier way to do things, but it also made the process quicker and even afforded extra time for me to build a relationship with my residents and staff members.
