1. Interpret statistical information
The summer of 2014, four other colleagues of mine developed an Academic Summer Enrichment program for marginalized students in the Whitehaven area. This was a 6 week program that took place at the YMCA-Davis located on Elvis Presley Blvd. After the program was over we had interpret the data we collected so we would know the good of the program and also what we needed to improve for next year. We carefully went through all of our work and weekly assessments to create reports that we could use in the future. This summer alone we touched over 50+ Participants ranging from two different counties and two school districts, multiple charter schools and 12+ zip codes. Participants ranged from ages 8-20 with an average age of 15.
2. Identify issues that reflect public policy
The last two years there has been a lot of discussion of the Campus Save Act and trying to raise awareness about sexual assault and domestic violence on campus. Sexual assault and domestic happens on every college campus and has gone unreported for a very long time at some universities. This act was implemented to create more accountability for each university in the United States, but also educate everyone associated with the college about the problems that face college students and how it must be on the top of everyone's priority list. I have set through many presentations and workshops on this issue alone and other things related to the protection women on college campuses more specifically.
3. Look at the world and ideas from multiple perspectives
My Adult Learning and Leadership class introduced me to the different beliefs and thoughts about learning from non-western countries. I learned a lot of great things that should be implemented in the U.S., but due to how independently thinking the people in the U.S. are these ideas and perspectives could never be carried out by the nation. I think they shed light on how selfish our nation is and also how we don't really care about general knowledge to help others, but only the knowledge that will help us advance into the places we see ourselves.
4. Describe and understand forces and interrelationships that shape behavior
or organizational systems
or organizational systems
In my complete autoethonography I was able to understand how strong of a role interrelationships play when it comes to an individuals behavior. A person is shaped by the environment surrounding them. The environment can be positive or negative, but it will still play a role on how that individual acts. The individual may not fit in with the current environment they are in, but it still has an effect and that is when that person makes the choice to leave that environment and surround themselves people of like minded thinking.
